The Cleveland Browns have been busy on the NFL trade market over the last couple of weeks. Last week the Browns made a move that needed to be made by adding OT Cam Robinson from the Houston Texans. Earlier this week, the Browns made a surprise move to ship QB Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals. Cleveland again made headlines on Wednesday night when it shipped Greg Newsome II to the Jaguars.
Newsome had been rumored to be a trade chip for quite some time and the Browns finally pulled the trigger on making the trade with the Jaguars. Cleveland added a cornerback of similar value with Tyson Campbell and they saved some cash doing it, over $8 million on the cap that they’ll look to roll over. Now with the Jaguars, Newsome has had his first media appearance and it isn’t a great look for the Browns.
“That was the biggest difference obviously like in Cleveland, ‘we gotta find a way, we gotta find a way’,” Newsome said on Friday. “Then when I get here I’m like, ‘wow, we just won’. Obviously, I didn’t play but we just won. It feels amazing. I’m just going to try to do my best to help them keep this upward trend.”
“Cleveland you’re sitting there mad, like we gotta find a way, we gotta find a way. I get here and it’s like, ‘wow, we just won’”

Newsome went from being with the 1-4 Browns who are on track to have the No. 2 pick in 2026 once again. Now with Jacksonville, Newsome is with a team that is 4-1 and just beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Cleveland owns the first round pick of the Jaguars in 2026 after their draft day trade back in April with the No. 2 and No. 5 overall picks that were spent on CB Travis Hunter and DT Mason Graham. Newsome gets to spend the fifth year of his contract with a team that is on track to make the playoffs, unlike the Browns.
While with Cleveland, Newsome has made three interceptions in five seasons with the team since he was a first-round pick back in 2021. Newsome has always been a starter for the Browns with his first two seasons coming on the outside, while the 2023 and 2024 seasons he spent in the slot. Due to an Achilles injury to Martin Emerson Jr., Newsome has been pushed back outside this season and has played very well. Cleveland didn’t see itself extending Newsome and he now gets that opportunity in Jacksonville.
