With the NFL trade deadline expiring on November 4th, and given the Miami Dolphins’ 1-5 record, it stands to reason that the Dolphins would show interest in making some moves via trades.
There is one lingering issue with that strategy, however.
Who will be entrusted to make those decisions?
Chris Grier?
Seriously, it is not in Grier’s best interest to trade productive players such as edge rushers Bradley Chubb or Jaelan Phillips, or safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, as these moves will lower the team’s chances of winning a few more games, potentially saving Grier’s job.
And the one player who had the most trade assets is now rehabbing from a horrible injury to his left knee.
Can I interest any other team in giving the Dolphins some high-round draft picks and absorbing some of Tyreek Hill’s contract dollars?
Only if they are interested in oceanfront property in the Mojave Desert.
So, given the circumstances, should Stephen Ross fire Grier, direct Grier to fire Coach Mike McDaniel, or fire both the general manager and the head coach?
The only logical choice is for Ross to begin by replacing general manager Chris Grier—and to do so now!
Or is Ross going to trust Chris Grier once again to make the correct decisions to begin the rebuild (again) of the Dolphins’ significantly compromised roster?
There is only one choice for Mr. Ross: Grier must go now.
Chris Grier and, yes, Mike McDaniel are fully responsible for creating the financial mess that this team finds itself in.
A new general manager, even if just an interim placeholder until a final decision is made, can be free to decide what is in the team’s best long-term interest.
Those decisions could and should include replacing coach Mike McDaniel.
And attempt to get out, or minimize the commitment to Tua Tagovailoa.
The new top brass needs to clean house and admit that the past rebuild effort was a dismal failure, including the drafting of Tua Tagovailoa ahead of not only Justin Herbert, but also Jordan Love and Jaylen Hurts.
Mr. Ross, the fans have grown weary and are beginning to show their displeasure by not attending games.
How embarrassing when most teams have sold-out crowds at their games, as opposed to the Dolphins with a half-empty stadium.
It is long past time for Stephen Ross to do the right thing for the fans who remain faithful.
Grier must go now!
