How Many Chances have the Dolphins Gotten Over the Years to Break their Lengthy Playoff Drought?

Any Miami Dolphins fan is well aware of the team’s unfortunately long active streak sans a playoff victory. It’s been an agonizing 25 seasons since the Dolphins last been on the winning side of a playoff bout, as their most recent win came in an AFC Wild Card game against the Indianapolis Colts back in the year 2000. Unfortunately, their 25-season postseason drought marks the longest active streak in the NFL.

However, that doesn’t mean the Dolphins haven’t gotten their fair share of chances over the last two-and-a-half decades to win in the playoffs. In fact, Miami has played in six playoff games since that win over Indianapolis at the start of the century.

But they’ve lost all those games, with the lion’s share of them being blowouts, and from the Dolphins’ 27-0 loss to the then-Oakland Raiders in the 2000 Divisional Round, not long after sending the Colts home to their latest playoff collapse against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023, they have fumbled each and every one of their opportunities to snap their playoff drought.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins might not get another chance to secure a playoff victory anytime in the near future, either. After all, they are amid a full-scale rebuild with a smorgasbord of young, unproven players, and the consensus view is that they will be one of the worst teams in football in 2026.

Whenever the Dolphins manage to snap their playoff drought, here’s hoping it’ll happen sooner rather than later, as fans of the team deserve to see some winning football after witnessing so many tough years this millennium. In fact, most people reading this article probably weren’t even alive for the last time the Dolphins were on top of the NFL world as Super Bowl champions, as that was over 50 years ago, back in 1974.
