The Dallas Cowboys have won five Super Bowls – tied with the San Francisco 49ers for the second-most in NFL history. The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most with six championships apiece.
The Cowboys have appeared in the Super Bowl eight times and have had two dynasties: one under legendary coach Tom Landry in the 1970s and another in the 1990s, led by coach Jimmy Johnson. Coach Barry Switzer coached the Cowboys in their last Super Bowl appearance (and victory) in January 1996.
The 1970s dynasty, which included five Super Bowl appearances, was led by quarterback Roger Staubach and running back Tony Dorsett. That team won two titles.
The 1990s dynasty, which included three Super Bowl appearances, featured the "Triplets" – quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith and wide receiver Michael Irvin.
The Cowboys have won the Super Bowl on five occasions – two in the 1970s and three in the 1990s. It's been three decades since they last won a championship.
The Cowboys have appeared in the Super Bowl eight times, tied for second-most in NFL history with the Steelers. The Patriots have appeared in the championship game a record 11 times.
Jerry Jones. He purchased the Cowboys in 1989 and immediately hired Jimmy Johnson as head coach, replacing Hall of Fame coach Tom Landry. The Jones era includes three Super Bowl titles in four seasons in the 1990s. The team won Super Bowl XXVII in January 1993, Super Bowl XXVIII in January 1994 and Super Bowl XXX in January 1996, with Barry Switzer coaching the final one. The Cowboys have not been back to the Super Bowl since.
