How the Chiefs won with a corn dog, some mustard and ketchup in Super Bowl LVIII
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Andy Reid did it again! He pulled out the right play calling magic at just the right time to win yet another Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs.

And just like the late fourth quarter touchdown in last year's Super Bowl, Reid called a familiar play design. It was a new variation of the "Corn Dog" play call that won the Chiefs Super Bowl LVII. Except this time he added a few new wrinkles to make sure it was an automatic touchdown coming in clutch to win in overtime.

He broke it down with NBC Sports' Peter King, talking through the entire design and player responsibilities that made the Super Bowl-winning play unique. Reid concluded the play's description with, "and that gives you a little corn dog with some mustard and ketchup" as he clearly stifled a sly smile.

Tiger 12. Tom & Jerry Right. One Way Play. Gun Trips Right Bunch. F Shuttle.

Or in other words: "Corn Dog with some mustard and ketchup".

Reid specified that Tiger 12 is the personnel package with Mecole Hardman in, two tight ends, and one running back. The two tight ends set up to the right with the flanker (Hardman) going in motion from the outside position of the trips bunch and Mahomes in shotgun. Once Mecole faked his jet motion with the "shuttle" the ball was snapped.

Visually, in the Tweet below, you can see how this put so much tension on the 49ers defense.

Right before the ball is snapped the defensive backs are having to decide if they need to switch coverage assignments. Kelce takes Charvarius Ward out of the play. Mahomes hits the easy layup for the score that seals Super Bowl LVIII.

So there you have it. Another Andy Reid Special . Patrick Mahomes is already tough enough to beat as it is. But as long as Reid keeps finding new ways to fry up corn dogs when it matters most, there's likely no stopping the Chiefs any time soon.
