Howie Roseman's account of A.J. Brown trade make ex-Titans GM look more foolish

One of the shining moments of Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman's career was his execution in solidifying a trade with the Tennessee Titans to acquire wide receiver A.J. Brown. Not many know the background story behind how Roseman pulled off the deal

While appearing on the Bussin' With The Boys In a podcast, Roseman told former NFL players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan that the deal was finalized the morning of the draft, but contract talks with Brown held the deal up until the very last second.

"The interesting thing was we had the trade done, the terms agreed to in the morning. We had to get a contract done with him and at the time, we started with three first-round picks in that draft. We traded one for a future pick with New Orleans. We still had two, and basically I said, 'Jon, like if we can't get a contract done, like, we can't do this trade, like we can't trade you a one and a three for one year of a player. You know, we got to get a contract done first.' We trade up and we get Jordan Davis. Our contract is still not done, and Jon's like, 'Well, what are we doing? What's going on here?' After we picked Jordan 12th, I think the pick we ended up 18th between 12 and 18, I'm trying to finish the contract. Nobody knew except a couple of people that we were even doing it because I said, 'Imagine if this falls apart. Like I'm going to be the GM who can't get a deal done with A.J.' At that point, when we finished it, it was about pick 14 and the deal was done."

How does that trade hold up after three years?

Everyone knows that the Eagles were the major winners of the deal. The Titans used the Eagles' first-round pick to select wide receiver Treylon Burks to be Brown's replacement in Tennessee.

Burks had 699 yards and one touchdown in three seasons and was released by the team last month after suffering yet another injury. Brown has made two Pro Bowls, three All-Pro selections, and won a Super Bowl with the Eagles.

Earlier in the month, Brown spoke out about the trade and was gracious with Burks. He discussed their relationship and felt bad that Burks had not been able to stay healthy on the field.

It's a shame that it hasn't worked out for Burks yet, but the Eagles were able to make something out of the deal with Brown. That was the move that set in motion the team winning the Super Bowl last season.
