'I'm on a revenge tour' — Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco gets his teammates fired up with explosive comments to media in Brazil

Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco entered the 2024 NFL season with a personal goal he'd been aiming for in each of his two prior years: Become a 1,000-yard rusher.

At season's end, he'd have just 83 attempts for 310 yards and one rushing score during the regular season after missing the vast majority of the season with a fractured fibula at his ankle joint. Upon returning in November, Pacheco was notably less effective. He didn't have the same pep in his step that fans had become accustomed to seeing, averaging just 3.4 yards per carry over eight combined regular-season and postseason games.

It wasn't just Pacheco's injury contributing to the overall lack of explosiveness, though. The 2024 Chiefs were far and away from the 2018 Chiefs offense that lit the league on fire. A to Z Sports' own Wendell Ferreira had the opportunity to ask Pacheco in São Paulo, Brazil, on Thursday about how the run game can contribute to regaining the explosive identity the Chiefs have become known for.

"The Chiefs' offense lacked explosiveness over the last two years," Ferreira asked. "How do you think the run game can be a part of getting that back?"

"For tomorrow, first game, we're here in Brazil," Pacheco began. "I think it's going to be a great experience to see how hard we've been working in the offseason and to make those big plays. Just be accountable to one another, and if it's a bad play, move on and just keep working."

Of course, Pacheco has been working hard this offseason because he knows what's on the line in 2025. It's about more than simply bouncing back from a Super Bowl loss; it's also about earning his second contract in the NFL.

Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco is on a 'revenge tour' in his contract year

After the 2024 NFL season was taken from him in a way he could not control, Pacheco is out for revenge and to claim what he believes is rightfully his. He's slated to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2025 NFL season, which means this year is a chance to showcase his worth, not just to Kansas City, but to the entire league.

Not only has the fourth-year running back undergone a physical transformation heading into the 2025 NFL season, but he's also worked to clean up his fundamentals within his running style. He didn't feel he was the best version of himself, but now he's out to make sure his team knows exactly the type of player he can be when he's at his best.

"For me, I'm on a revenge tour," Pacheco told reporters in Brazil on Thursday. "If you know what revenge means, you know what a tour is. I'm on a revenge tour, and that's my goal. That's the accountability I'm coming to the table bringing to the leadership."

Those words went a long way to fire up those who shared the microphone with him during media availability. Chiefs DT Chris Jones gave an unprompted response to Pacheco's words, met with grins from LB Nick Bolton and K Harrison Butker.

"Let's go," Jones exclaimed, pounding the table in excitement. "We need him on a revenge tour. Absolutely."

So, bet against Pacheco at your own risk. As the late Terez Paylor used to say, "The contract year is undefeated."
