Infamous Raiders deal ranks highly in biggest NFL trades

On Thursday, the NFL was rocked by news surrounding Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys.

Stuck at an impasse in contract negotiations, the Cowboys made the shocking decision to trade Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks. It is rare for a prime talent such as Parsons to get moved, and many already consider it one of the biggest trades in NFL history.

Unsurprisingly, a storied franchise such as the Las Vegas Raiders have been part of many memorable moves in their history, but not all of them have worked out in their favor.

One of the biggest trades in NFL history saw the Raiders come out on the losing end.

In the wake of the Parsons trade, Fox Sports released a list of the top ten trades in NFL history, with the 2007 trade of Randy Moss from the then-Oakland Raiders to the New England Patriots clocking in at No. 9.

“After Moss was moved to the Patriots, his career found a second wind. He developed a special connection with Tom Brady and surpassed the 1,000-receiving yards mark each season. In 2007, he posted a career-high 1,493 yards and 23 touchdowns, the most by a receiver in a single season. Despite the individual success, Moss wasn’t a part of New England’s Super Bowl-winning teams,” Fox Sports justified.

The Raiders could only get a fourth-round pick out of Moss, who was coming off of a down 2006 with only 553 yards.

Moss bounced back with New England to put up arguably the best stretch of his career. While he did not win a Super Bowl with the Patriots, it is unlikely either side regrets the deal. The Raiders ultimately used the pick they got from Moss on cornerback John Bowie, who was out of the NFL after 2009.

While Moss is one of the most prolific wide receivers in NFL history, his tenure with the Raiders ended on a rather sour note.
