Injury Diagnosis Announced For Browns QB Shedeur Sanders

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like we'll see Shedeur Sanders on the field this Saturday when the Cleveland Browns take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sanders thrived in his preseason debut with the Browns, completing 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns. He played well enough to climb up the depth chart, albeit Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was unwilling to make changes ahead of the team's second preseason game.

"The situations were invaluable for Shedeur and all of our offense," Stefanski said. "We got a third-and-1 where he had a quarterback sneak. I mean, there’s just a lot of football and that’s by design with him getting a ton of reps in this game, and he’ll get a ton of reps next week as well. That’s all part of our development of our young players."

Sanders could've really helped out his chances of being the starter or even No. 2 option with a strong showing this weekend. However, he'll most likely sit out due to injury.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Browns announced that Sanders is dealing with an oblique strain. He's considered day-to-day at this time. Although he avoided a long-term injury, this has to be viewed as a brutal blow for the rookie from Colorado.

With Sanders out for the Browns right now, Dillon Gabriel is expected to start against the Eagles. That is, of course, if he's cleared for action. He sat out last Friday due to hamstring tightness.

"The plan was always to give both of those guys start in the preseason, so we’ll see how it shakes out," Stefanski told reporters.

Hopefully, Sanders will be healthy for Cleveland's preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams. He has 10 days to get himself ready for that matchup.

In the meantime, Cleveland fans will get to see what their other rookie quarterback is made of.
