Insider Predicts Jacoby Brissett’s Future With New England Patriots

Jacoby Brissett's role as a bridge quarterback lasted five starts with the New England Patriots in 2024. While it didn't go as planned, the team will need depth at the position in 2025.

Patriots insider Chris Mason of MassLive.com anticipates that the team will need to look elsewhere for that depth behind Drake Maye because Brissett seems poised to leave in free agency.

Mason noted Brissett's comments with ESPN in December 2024 as an indicator.

“There’s so much I could say, but I guess, ‘not ideal.’ Obviously, a unique situation here,” Brissett told ESPN's Mike Reiss. “I’m not the one to make excuses, but at some point somebody is going to have to watch the film and understand what I was dealing with."

"I think that kind of speaks for itself. I think it’s very easy for people to blame the quarterback for things — that’s what this profession is — but yeah man, tough year," Brissett added.

In five starts, Brissett went 1-4 and completed 59% of his passes for 826 yards and two touchdowns versus one interception.

Maye came in and impressed in place of Brissett amid a 66.6% completion rate for 2,276 yards and 15 touchdowns versus 10 picks.

As Mason noted, "Brissett was struggling mightily," and both quarterbacks had to work with the same cast of players.

In addition, Mason emphasized that Brissett's comment to Reiss is "tough to hear" for fellow teammates.

If Brissett left in free agency, the Patriots would only have Joe Milton III behind Maye.
