In one of the more magical seasons that the NFL had ever seen, the Chicago Bears stunned the football community by taking the NFC North and advancing to the postseason. After the dust settled, quarterback Caleb Williams became the quarterback everyone talked about.

But there have been debates on whether Williams should be the featured athlete on the cover of the Madden NFL video game. No player from the Bears has ever graced the cover of the game.

With the announcement of the players happening in June, why is Caleb Williams in the competition to be on the cover?

Evidence that Caleb Williams Can Headline Madden NFL ’27

The ‘Iceman’ Hype

The fadeaway 14-yard touchdown pass that was launched from 40 yards against the Los Angeles Rams was also a trend. EA Sports is reportedly considering these moments for the cover of the game.

Although Williams controversially took the nickname from NBA legend George Gervin, the NFL community loves it. He has made it a trademark that has set the football landscape on fire.

Historic 2025 Season

Caleb Williams had a record-breaking 2025 season. He is coming off a historical year for a Chicago Bears quarterback. The second-year quarterback passed for 3,942 yards (franchise record), 27 passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, and one receiving touchdown. He has proven to be a versatile player when called upon.

Williams was able to lead the Bears into the postseason and win a game for the first time since 2010. He also set a franchise record for passing yards in a postseason game (361). He was the king of the comeback as he willed his team to victory.

Williams has already set three NFL records in his two years of playing in the NFL. He has the fewest interceptions through 1,000 career passing attempts (12). He also has the most consecutive passing attempts without an interception by a rookie (354).

In a November 2025 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, he became the first player in NFL history to accumulate multiple passing touchdowns, multiple receptions, and a receiving touchdown in a single game.

Madden Status and Competition

Williams also has the Madden game on his side. While EA Sports usually favors current superstars like Saquon Barkley, Josh Allen, or, Patrick Mahomes, younger players made their mark. Players like Vince Young and Lamar Jackson were examples of younger athletes who made the cover.

Although Williams is a strong contender to be on the cover, he does have competition. Other names who’ve been mentioned are Myles Garrett, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Drake Maye. But it does not dismiss the fact that Williams can be a strong candidate for the game.

Caleb Williams had his early struggles, but he now seems to be one of the premeire players of the NFL. With a Jordan-like mentality and the ability to make dimes on the move, Williams has the tools to make the Chicago Bears a threat.
