Is Terry McLaurin a Titans Trade Option?

Every time a star player comes up, there are mentions from Titans fans or in some aspect of social media about Tennessee trading or acquiring that player. And this offseason isn't any different.

The latest player that is reportedly disgruntled is Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin. The veteran wide receiver is seeking an extension from the Commanders, but currently, neither side is able to agree on a deal. So, before it gets out of hand, no, the Titans are not going to go after McLaurin.

The first thing is that McLaurin has to be made available in a trade. And by all indications, he has not been made available by the Commanders. Sure, both sides have not agreed to a deal, but that could change at the drop of a hat.

Emotions can run high during contract negotiations anyway, so at this point, unless something like McLaurin holding out happens, then this is much ado about nothing. Plus, he is the best wide receiver on the Commanders without question, so it would be in their best interest to keep him, especially after the NFC Championship run last season.

However, let's say something unexpected happens and McLaurin becomes available before the season. Even if McLaurin is made available, the Titans still would not be a team in the running for his services.

The reason for that is because of the way Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi wants to build the franchise back up. In case you forgot, Borgonzi previously stated what his philosophy was when it came to wanting to build the team.

"Our philosophy will be to draft and develop, to be selective and have discipline in the process," Borgonzi previously told reporters at the NFL scouting combine in February.

Borgonzi has also discussed acquiring picks and making those selections count for this organization to replenish its talent. That does not sound like a general manager looking to trade picks for a star wide receiver.

Ultimately, it is highly unlikely McLaurin has any chance to land on a new team before the season starts, let alone landing with the Titans.
