It took Graham Glasgow one game to make Lions fans deeply miss Frank Ragnow

Graham Glasgow was handed a nearly impossible task this offseason after being signed by the Detroit Lions. The returning guard was suddenly thrust into a competition for the center position with rookie Tate Ratledge after the retirement of star center Frank Ragnow shocked the Lions fanbase.

Glasgow clearly looked good enough in camp to take the position in earnest from Ratledge, but we saw nothing that would show why he won that job in the Lions' embarrassing 27-6 loss against the Green Bay Packers on the road in Week 1. The longest run of the game for the Lions was for six yards from Jahmyr Gibbs, who could barely punch out anything from what the line was providing him.

Jared Goff was pressured relentlessly, and sacked four times. Glasgow - and, truthfully, much of Detroit's O-line - looked lost.

It contributed heavily to a loss that many will lay at the feet of new offensive coordinator John Morton. When looking back on this tape, fans will immediately notice that Detroit left many yards on the field thanks to a collapsed pocket and mistrust by Goff, who is clearly still getting used to a new center and O-line.

Ragnow missed dearly after Glasgow's lackluster debut at center

While Ratledge looked perfectly average, it was Glasgow's performance that was under a microscope in this contest. He couldn't guard anyone on the Packers' defensive line, and his hands were extremely full with the addition of Micah Parsons to a line that's already boasting Edgerrin Cooper, Rashan Gary, Colby Wooden, and others. The youngest unit in the league certainly looked the part, in short.

Ragnow was one of the steadiest presences on the Lions' offensive line, providing a ton of protection to Goff over the last few years that has helped him to often touch being the league leader in passing yards. But, today, Detroit's offensive line looked awfully penetrable. Even Penei Sewell, the All-Pro tackle named the 13th best player in the NFL this year, couldn't get much done against the Packers.

However, Glasgow's underperformance is what fans will remember from this afternoon. With Ratledge breathing down his neck as a potential replacement, a certain center in Miami that could be had for the right price, or even veteran Dan Skipper who is in waiting on the practice squad, he has to know that Week 2's performance at Ford Field vs. the Chicago Bears is critical to his future at center.
