'It's already hard on them' - Cowboys LB DeMarvion Overshown reveals his wild NFL Draft horror story

I can't imagine the pressure NFL prospects feel throughout the Draft process. Imagine being aware of every mock draft, rumor, and scouting report available in the internet while also having to be prepared for the Scouting Combine, the Pro Day, the interviews... it sounds overwhelming.

But when you hear a story like the one DeMarvion Overshown's just revealed, now that's on another level. The Dallas Cowboys linebacker shared a brief anecdote about his Draft process while trying to encourage people to be uplifting with this year's class of prospects.

According to Overshown, an NFL team called his camp to inform them they had found a cyst on his hip and that they thought it was cancerous.

"I was already nervous about the draft as is," Overshown wrote on X. "Then to hear that. Make sure we uplifting these guys. It’s hard already on them."

Fortunately for Overshown, he avoided cancer and his draft stock seemingly remained intact. Throughout most of the process he was perceived as a third-round prospect and that's exactly where the Cowboys drafted him.

As we've learned since then, he should've been drafted earlier. Though it's true he missed his rookie season with a torn ACL and later the final stretch of his sophomore year with another tear that's expected to knock him out for a good chunk of the 2025 season, Overshown showed flashes of brilliance in 2024. The All-Pro kind.

If he can come back at the same level later this year, the Cowboys will have gotten a steal minus the injuries. Decade-long NFL veteran Eric Kendricks said last year he saw Overshown as someone with potential to be among the best in the NFL.

When he takes the field, he will do so with a new jersey number, as he's becoming the first player ever to wear number zero in franchise history. Things are going well for Overshown, certainly much better than that day when he received that scary phone call in 2023.
