It's no secret why Bengals are pulling out a rare uniform combination for Week 2 matchup against Jaguars

The Cincinnati Bengals are once again wearing their orange alternate jerseys for their home-opener, running back the "Open In Orange" tradition the club started last year.

Cincinnati wore orange jerseys and pants for last season's opener to go with the standard orange helmet, but the Bengals are opting for their white and orange pants this time around when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

This combination has only been worn once since the team debuted its updated uniforms in 2021. The last (and only) time it was donned was against the same opponent coming to Paycor Stadium this week.

Bengals looking to recreate some 2021 magic

Cincinnati hosted Jacksonville for "Thursday Night Football" in Week 4 of the 2021 season. It was a special night for the franchise as the inaugural Ring of Honor class was to be inducted at halftime, and it was Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase's first primetime game as Bengals teammates.

It was also the first time the new orange jerseys were to be worn, and after the first half, they looked to be bad luck.

The Bengals were shutout, 14-0, after two quarters of play, leaving a packed home crowd stunned to watch Ken Anderson and Anthony Munoz receive their Ring of Honor jackets during the halftime ceremony. Burrow and the offense punted three times and Evan McPherson missed a 43-yard field goal on their opening drive.

McPherson would later get a shot at redemption, but not before Burrow got to work.

Cincinnati scored three consecutive touchdowns in the second half, with two drives lasting 12 and 10 plays, respectively. The defense came up with a stop on the Jags' last drive of the night, and Burrow delivered a now famous short pass to tight end C.J. Uzomah against a cover zero blitz, positioning the offense in game-winning field goal range.

McPherson would go on to make a 35-yarder at the buzzer, and Cincinnati prevailed with a comeback victory in the orange jerseys.

The combo from that night has yet to be touched since. The Bengals have worn orange jerseys with black pants five times and the aforementioned all-orange combo once, sporting a 3-3 record in those games. All three losses have come in the most recent three games they've been worn.

What better way to change things up than by bringing back the combo that started it all nearly four years ago—against the same team nonetheless?

Cincinnati will hope to the threads carry the same luck this time.
