Jadeveon Clowney makes first statements after Texans reunion

Recently, the Houston Texans made a splash when it was announced that they would be signing free agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney to a deal. The move reunites Houston with their 2014 number one overall draft pick, who had a solid career with the Texans in the 2010s.

Now, Clowney has spoken out about his return to the Texans, including what went into his decision.

“Chasing a Super Bowl. No better place to do that than here. It wasn’t about the money. I could have went other places for a little bit more money,” he said, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston on X, formerly Twitter.

He also spoke on how the culture within the Texans organization has changed since the last time he was with the team.

“It’s changed in a good way, lot more relaxed than when I first got here. Group of guys are great,” he said.

While Clowney might have been a slight disappointment during his first tenure in Houston relative to his sky-high expectations as the number one draft pick, he still carved out a solid career for himself with the Texans for several years, and has continued to provide value to other teams around the league over the past few seasons.

At the age of 33, the veteran might not be in his prime any longer, but he still has experience and skill that he can apply to what was already one of the best defensive units in the league for the Texans.

Houston’s season is set to get underway on September 13.
