Have the Jacksonville Jaguars acquired a player on the cusp of greatness?

Longtime NFL analyst Tony Wiggins believes they have. The host of the popular Locked on Jags podcast is so bullish on one of the team’s receivers that he already hopes they sign him to an extension.

He’s not talking about Travis Hunter Jr. He sees another receiver as the key ingredient.

While Wiggins certainly believes the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner will make an immediate impact, he sees free-agent signee Dyami Brown as the key ingredient in a potentially explosive Jaguars’ passing attack.

“That man can fly and take the top off the defense,” Wiggins said of Brown in Monday morning’s Locked on Jags episode.

On paper, Brown has been easy to overlook. He scored only four touchdowns across four seasons with the Washington Commanders, and caught only 30 balls for 308 yards and one touchdown in 2024.

Then came the playoffs. The Commanders got hot and knocked off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (23-20) and heavily-favored Detroit Lions (45-31) last January. Brown hauled in 11 catches for 187 yards and one score in those contests.

Brown’s current head coach Liam Coen was on the opposite sideline in one of those games, as the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator.

“(Brown) had the best year of his career in, like, the last four or five games of his career in Washington,” Wiggins said. “One of the teams he did that against was a team coached on one side of the ball by (Coen).”

Brown had 5 catches for 89 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown, in that game.

The Jaguars snapped Brown up in free agency with a one-year, $10 million deal.

Wiggins said Brown’s value won’t necessarily be in steady game-by-game production — though he believes the speedy wideout will have his moments.

“Mark my words,” said Wiggins. “There’s gonna be three or four games this year he’s gonna be their lead receiver, either in yards, or catches, or touchdowns, or all three.”

Brown’s presence, especially in three-receiver sets, will force teams to cover him deep, opening up possibilities for Hunter, or Brian Thomas Jr.

More crucially, Brown gives Jacksonville’s offense speed insurance, especially during times when Hunter — who will also play on defensive downs at cornerback — needs a breather.

The Jaguars have more than one deep threat now.

“In the past, when they would build the team, they’d have one guy for this, one guy for that, and one guy for that, and then when (a) guy got hurt, they had to switch everything that they were doing,” Wiggins said. “Or, try to go out and get a guy with speed through free agency.”

This year, the offensive intent is crystal clear.

“The Jaguars have decided that no, no, no, this year, they’re gonna be fast on top of fast,” Wiggins said.
