Jahmyr Gibbs drops hint about signing a new contract
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs appears to be closing in on an enormous new contract.

Gibbs has reported to Lions camp but had yet to take part in any drills as he stages a hold-in for a new contract. That deal appears to be close, as the running back offered a thumbs-up to reporters who asked if there had been any progress in contract talks.

Albert Breer of The MMQB suggested that a deal was close as well.

Gibbs appears likely to outdo the Bijan Robinson contract that was just signed two days ago. The Lions running back waited out the market and let both Robinson and Jonathan Taylor get their deals done, which should put him in the best possible position to negotiate a deal that tops both of theirs.

Gibbs has two years remaining on his rookie deal, but both he and the Lions would like to work something out now. He has certainly earned it, as the 24-year-old has posted 5,029 yards from scrimmage and 49 total touchdowns during his first three NFL seasons.
