Jahmyr Gibbs Makes Weird NFL History During Lions-Packers

Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is officially in full swing. The Detroit Lions started their season with a stiff test against one of their NFC North division rivals, the Green Bay Packers. Heading to Green Bay, the Lions, who finished as the No. 1 seed in the NFC last season, found themselves as underdogs ahead of this matchup.

As of the game's 4:25 p.m. EDT kickoff, the Lions were 2.5-point underdogs, on the road at Lambeau Field (per BetMGM). The majority of the on-field storylines followed the newest member of the Packers, Micah Parsons around. Parsons did collect his first sack in a Packers uniform during the fourth quarter.

As for the world of fantasy football, most eyes were on consensus first-round pick, Jahmyr Gibbs, the Lions star running back who led the league in rushing touchdowns last season (16). Despite the Lions falling 27-13 to the Packers, in a game that wasn't as close as the score would dictate, Gibbs still managed to provide his fantasy owners with productive output, in points per reception leagues at least.

Jahmyr Gibbs Sets Unique NFL Record

Gibbs finished Sunday's game with 31 receiving yards on 10 receptions. In the process, Gibbs made a weird version of NFL history.

As per Field Yates (@FieldYates), Gibbs's 31 receiving yards is the least for any player with at least 10 receptions in a single game in NFL history.

Gibbs would add 19 rush yards on nine carries. He also brought in every one of the 10 targets thrown his way.

While Gibbs' performance didn't come close to the single-game record for receptions by a running back, held by Clark Gaines (17), it continued to highlight Gibbs' ability to catch the back out of the backfield.

The Lions next chance to land in the win-column this season will come in Week 2 against one of their other division rivals, the Chicago Bears. The Lions will play their home-opener next Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
