The Green Bay Packers made the expected move, releasing two-time All-Pro Jaire Alexander, freeing up $11.7 million in cap space this season, by releasing him after June 1, which could set up a robust market for the 28-year-old to walk into.
While injuries have wreaked havoc on Alexander’s career in recent years, limiting him to just 14 games over the past two seasons, when healthy, the veteran cornerback could be a substantial upgrade at what has become a premium position across the league.
Through the first seven seasons of his career, Alexander has posted 287 total tackles with 12 interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, and logging 1.5 sacks.
Here’s a look at three teams and situations where Alexander would be an ideal fit.
Arguably Alexander’s best fit, and ideal destination, Minnesota has a glaring need at cornerback that the Vikings did little to address this offseason.
Signing with the Vikings would add mad scientist blitz designer, defensive coordinator Brian Flores, with a ballhawk in the secondary and upgrade one of Minnesota’s biggest remaining needs.
Likewise, for Alexander, signing with the Vikings presents the opportunity to not only sign with a playoff-caliber roster led by its defense but also the chance to square off with the Packers twice per season to exact some revenge on his former team.

The Cowboys’ defense is built on the foundation of a dominant pass rush, led by Micah Parsons, but could use an infusion of quality veteran depth in the secondary.
Alexander would check that box and help build out a defense worthy of being a complement for quarterback Dak Prescott and an offense that saw an infusion of talent with the trade for George Pickens earlier this offseason.
Similarly, signing Alexander would be a worthy countermove to having to face the elite wide receiver duos in Philadelphia and Washington, as well as New York Giants dynamic playmaker Malik Nabers twice each season.
New York could be a sleeper to watch for Alexander.
General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are under immense pressure to win enough games to save each of their jobs this season, and that means fielding a veteran roster that they can lean on, as the young talent they’ve acquired in recent drafts continues to develop.
Alexander would join Jevon Holland and Paulson Adebo as veteran defensive backs, added this offseason into the Giants’ secondary, and would be the perfect move for New York to counteract the damage done by some of the elite receiving corps in the NFC East.
