Jalen Carter Suspension Decision Made by NFL: Report

The NFL season kicked off Thursday night with immense drama between the Dallas Cowboys and defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Before the Cowboys offense could even run a play, quarterback Dak Prescott and Eagles pass rusher Jalen Carter got in each other’s face. Carter then spit directly on Prescott, resulting in a flag and an immediate ejection.

The Eagles went on to win 24-20. Head coach Nick Sirianni said any potential repercussions would be handled in-house. However, the NFL also weighed in on Sunday, and according to USA TODAY Sports, the league does not plan to suspend Carter.

A league official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the NFL is still reviewing the situation, said a suspension for Carter is not under consideration. That said, Carter could still face fines, and a final decision from the NFL is expected on Monday.

Jalen Carter is still a young player in the league at just 24 years old after being drafted by the Eagles in 2023. Yet he has already become one of the franchise’s most important pieces, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Unfortunately, starting his 2025 campaign in such fashion was far from ideal, but it’s something Carter admitted and owned up to after the game.

“It was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won’t happen again," Carter said postgame. "I feel bad, just for my teammates and the fans out there. It won’t happen again. I made that promise."

Across his first two seasons in the NFL with the Eagles, Carter has quickly emerged as one of the league’s most dominant interior pass rushers, recording 75 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 25 quarterback hits, and 10.5 sacks.

With all signs pointing to him suiting up in Week 2, the stage is set for a big game as the Eagles travel to Arrowhead Stadium for a matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
