Jalen Hurts cooks up perfect response to Eagles' recent offensive struggles

Give the Philadelphia Eagles a lot of credit: they recognize the main problem with their team and have spent the short week addressing it.

Following Sunday's incredibly disappointing 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos, the central theme of the game was miscommunication and being "not on the same page." DeVonta Smith mentioned that the team needs to get on the same page, while Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown didn't discuss the "dagger" call that was ruled incomplete in the second half.

This resulted in Hurts, Brown, and Saquon Barkley meeting on Monday for a couple of hours. This time was used to discuss the team and, well, get on the same page.

Philly is hoping this will pay off and refocus the team. Hurts faced the media on Tuesday to discuss why the Eagles have struggled to get in sync as a unit. He answered it about the only way Hurts could.

"It's like having all the same ingredients but having a different chef in the kitchen," Hurts said via PHLY's EJ Smith. "That's kind of what it's been for us over the years. You can have the same ingredients, and somebody can make the same dish, and it tastes different.

"Ultimately, the whole objective collectively as a group is to go out there and find ways to win, and that's changed in how we've been able to do that over the years. We're navigating that, but again, you have to look inward. What can we control, how can we master our detail and be better with the things that we can control? ... That's always a day-by-day grind, and we're focused on that. I sense that."

Eagles fans might be hungry, but Hurts is right

Staying with the theme that Hurts started, the problem with the Eagles isn't the ingredients. The problem is the menu that Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has created each week.

Too much of the criticism that has come Patullo's way is that his play-calling is too predictable and boring. Earlier in the season, it was too many runs and screen passes. On Sunday, he just completed abandoning the run, and the Broncos would drop back everyone in coverage.

This season, the Eagles' offense is ranked 30th in average total yards per game with 261.6. They're the second-worst passing attack in the NFL, averaging 161.8 yards per game.

Hurts is honestly not having that bad of a season, with 889 passing yards and seven touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He's also rushed for 182 yards and four touchdowns. Most years, that might put someone in the conversation for NFL MVP, but five games into the season, it's not enough for that talk.

The Eagles have plenty of time to turn this around, but let's remember, they are 4-1 on the year, so this is still a Michelin star restaurant. It just lost a star for the time being.
