Ja'Marr Chase's Next Contract: Salary Cap Expert Shares Details About Possible Structure

The Bengals are closing in on a record-setting contract extension with Ja'Marr Chase that will make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

It's well deserved for Chase, who became the fifth player to win the NFL's triple crown last season. He led the NFL in receptions (127), receiving yards (1,708) and receiving touchdowns (17).

Salary cap expert Andre Perrotta shared insight into what Chase's next contract could look like:

"Expect a four-year extension (taking him under contract through the 2029 season)," Perrotta wrote on X. "Will total guarantees at signing surpass Jefferson's $110M? I suspect they will, and will be between $111-$115M. Will the fully guaranteed at signing surpass Jefferson's $88.743M? I suspect they might, but wouldn't be shocked if the fully GRTD at signing is actually less than Jefferson's (say, $82M-$85M), perhaps as a concession for the substantially higher AAV as percentage of the Cap at signing ($40M+ AAV for Chase = 14.32% of Cap vs. $35M AAV for Jefferson = 13.7% of Cap)."

If Chase does sign a four-year deal, it would put him under contract through the 2029 season, which would align with Joe Burrow's current deal.

It's reasonable to expect Chase to get guaranteed money in his second season, much like Burrow received with his extension.

The Bengals signed Burrow to a five-year, $275 million extension that made him the highest-paid player in the NFL on September 9, 2023. Less than two years later they're expected to make Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.

Perrotta projects Chase to ultimately sign a four-year, $160.4 million extension with $82 million fully guaranteed at signing and $115 million in total guarantees.
