The Detroit Lions quarterback, Jared Goff, has built a reputation for his skills on the field, but his latest initiative shows his commitment to making an impact off the field. He is about to host an event that will celebrate the college kids’ journey, but in a unique way.
The event is called the 2026 FATE Draft Day, which will take place on July 26 and is organized by Merit’s FATE program. Goff will host the draft-style event where the graduates will walk a red carpet and publicly announce their plans or goals in a format inspired by the NFL Draft.
“Making us actually feel like celebrities and athletes is very special to us,” a graduate, Martz Rich, said at Live In The D.
Rich’s comments on the liveinthed YouTube video revealed the purpose behind the event. For students, the education milestones are celebrated silently, but the FATE Draft Day turns those achievements into a public celebration.
By recreating the excitement of draft night, the event gives graduates confidence as they step towards the next stage of their lives. The FATE program is a four-year, cohort-based initiative created by the nonprofit Merit.
It prepares students for academics and their long-term professional careers with the right mentorship, career exposure, and project-based learning.
Goff has been a longtime supporter of merit, showing his involvement in his community work. He has also established the Detroit Foundation with JG16 to help fund university scholarships. His charity work has become a defining part of his presence in Detroit.
By giving students an NFL draft-like spotlight, Goff is helping celebrate education and ambition with the same enthusiasm that sounds professional.
The event is also open to the public with tickets and donation opportunities for those who wish to support the program. But Goff isn’t just being celebrated off-field.
The latest quarterback rankings show the growing respect he has earned from NFL decision-makers after another productive season in Detroit.
In ESPN’s annual quarterback rankings of 2026, NFL executives, coaches, and scouts placed Jared Goff in ninth position, beating the Super Bowl champions like Sam Darnold and Jalen Hurts, who are listed in honorable mentions.
“The guy wins,” an NFL coordinator said via Jeremy Fowler on ESPN. “He’s going to find a completion if not under pressure. Mature pocket passer with a plus arm who can layer the ball at all levels.”
Goff appeared in the top ten in 60% of the ballots, as per Fowler. His ability to quickly read defenses, make smart decisions, and give accurate throws has made him one of the league’s most reliable QBs. But he struggles to play when under pressure.
While Goff was ranked 9th, last year’s Super Bowl-winning quarterback, Sam Darnold, was not even in the top-10 and listed as an honorable mention.
Goff is entering his sixth season, including an NFC title game berth and a one-seed under immense pressure.
However, if Goff manages to get past that pressure, he might be able to win the Lombardi trophy.
