The Detroit Lions are scheduled to take on the Green Bay Packers this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET at Lambeau Field in Wisconsin, giving coach Dqn Campbell's team a chance to begin building toward what it hopes will be the third straight NFC North Division title.

The Lions lost defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson this offseason but return fearsome pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson.

Meanwhile the Packers added linebacker Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys in a late offseason trade that has vaulted coach Matt LaFleur's team to division favorite status by most Las Vegas oddsmakers.

On Wednesday, Lions quarterback Jared Goff put the Packers' favorite status to rest with a bold six-word zinger that is sure to have fans of both teams talking.

Goff commented on several topics including the Packers and made his true feelings known.

He spoke about the Packers' improved odds to win the division after the Parsons trade.

"Vegas has been wrong before, right?" Goff said according to reporter Kory Woods.

Goff also commented on the Lions' odds dropping.

"Love it," he reportedly said.

Goff Under the Microscope in 2025-26

Goff, whether fairly, or not, is under the microscope headed into this season and Lions fans and NFL pundits wonder whether he has the talent to guide Detroit to its first ever Super Bowl appearance and Super Bowl title.

Goff and the Lions put up 31 points in a losing effort against the Commanders in the 2024-25 playoffs, a game that started with the Lions losing cornerback Amik Robertson to a broken humerus in his left arm.

The injury came early in the game and further depleted an already injured Lions defense. Goff pressed and threw three uncharacteristic interceptions in a losing effort.

The Goff comments came as coach Dan Campbell sent a clear message to Parsons ahead of Week 1. The Lions got support from a Dallas Cowboys legend.

Packers, Lions a Monumental Week 1 Clash

Season openers don't get much bigger than Sunday's with both teams expected to jostle for position all season long at or near the top of the NFC North.

The Lions have dominated the series between the two teams in recent years. Most fans expected Hutchinson's return to be the big story in Week 1 and now the Parsons/Hutchinson dynamic will likely take center stage.

The Lions have an exciting mix of newcomers and holdovers that give them a great chance to pull off a win on Sunday.

How quickly Detroit's two new coaching staff leaders, defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard and offensive coordinator John Morton, settle in will be a major storyline as to how well Campbell's team does from the opening kickoff to the final seconds ticking off the clock in Green Bay.
