Jared Goff Sends Classy Message To Refs After Controversial Loss

Yesterday's controversial ending at Ford Field had a lot of fans heated at the refs. But Lions quarterback Jared Goff says the officials aren't to blame for essentially ending the team's playoff hopes.

Detroit lost on Sunday after having two touchdowns called back in the last 25 seconds on offensive pass interference calls (one a bit more questionable than the other).

And although Goff didn't necessarily agree with the flags that were thrown, he understands that there's nothing that can be done about them now and the Lions have to lay in the bed that they mostly made.

Jared Goff: 'I don’t want to make any excuses'

Speaking to the media after the game, Goff was understanding that the referees have a tough job to do and also acknowledged that there are two sides to every call.

"[The officials] have a hard job, and I don’t want to make any excuses or anything like that. We’ve been on the right side of a lot of these, and we’ve been on the wrong side on a lot of these,” Goff said.

“I think a few plays prior, the one on TeSlaa was a little bit more in my head up for interpretation, but listen, man, they’re going to make the calls, and I promise you if I was sitting on the other side of that right now, we’d be saying, ‘Great job,’" the QB admitted. "But those sting for sure and you wish they weren’t called, but so be it.”

Aaron Rodgers glad Steelers came out on top

On the other side, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers shared what was going through his mind as referees deciphered the penalty:

"I was trying to read Carl [Cheffer's] lips and see what he was saying, and I saw him mouth, 'OPI, end of the game.' So, I felt pretty confident that was what was going to happen, but you never know. It's more time," Rodgers said of Sunday's lengthy review.

"And I was there for the 'Fail Mary' game," he added. "I was standing from me to you from the replacement refs as they caved to the pressure of an angry Seattle field when that was obviously not simultaneous possession. So, I was glad that it ended up like that. Wild game. Glad we're on top."

The Steelers move to 9-6 on the season with the win, while Detroit's playoff chances dropped to the single digits following the 29-24 defeat. Both teams have two games to play to try to lock up spot in their respective playoff brackets.
