Jared Goff will be hoisting the Most Valuable Player award at the end of the 2025 NFL season.

At least, that's what one NFL writer thinks through the first five games of the season.

Goff, who has been posting video game numbers for the Detroit Lions and has led them to a strong 4-1 start to the year, is certaintly in the early conversation for the accolade alongside players like Baker Mayfield, Dak Prescott, and defending MVP Josh Allen.

Goff entering the fold as top MVP candidate according to one NFL writer

Quarterbacks have been ruling the headlines these days, and Goff is no exception. According to NFL Spin Zone's Lou Scataglia, Goff is the top candidate for the award at this point given his work against the Baltimore Ravens and a tough-nosed Cincinnati Bengals defense.

"Jared Goff is getting better?? Yes, he's getting better. Through the first five weeks of the 2025 NFL Season, Goff has completed a league-leading 75.2% of his passes. He's also thrown for 12 touchdown passes, which is the most in the NFL as well. With just two interceptions on the season, Jared Goff is taking care of the football while also doing a ton of damage through the air. He's been flat-out amazing this year and has a success rate of 55.6%, which would be the highest mark of his career."

It's not an exaggeration to say that he's been the most steadfast piece of the Lions' offense, and for the Lions, period, this entire season. Injuries have already begun to mount on their offensive line and their secondary, but you almost get a sense of ease about those injuries knowing that Goff is under center.

That's an unfamiliar feeling to Lions fans who might still be thinking of Goff as the slinger who came into the city of Detroit back in 2021 and served up one losing year and one year of barely missing out on the postseason. He was turnover prone, immobile, and not the flashiest signal caller one might think of when considering talent that does fit that bill in the NFL.

But, he's become extremely efficient, a real issue as a pocket passer, and has been a delight to watch develop even more as a soon to be 31 year old quarterback who could've easily plateaued after being shipped off to his doom. Now, he comes to mind as a top MVP candidate for some.
