Jaxson Dart addresses 'negativity' hovering over Giants after win over Eagles

Coming off a loss to what had been a winless New Orleans Saints side, the New York Giants were betting underdogs by more than a touchdown for their "Thursday Night Football" home game versus the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.

After the Giants improved to 2-4 via an impressive 34-17 win over the Eagles, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart addressed attempting to change what players and fans think of Big Blue.

Jaxson Dart one of the new "winners" on the New York Giants

"I just think there's, at times, some negativity that's surrounding here," Dart explained, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. "For us, some of the new guys that are coming here, we just got here, so we don't feel like we were involved in the past. We've got a lot of winners on this team, guys who come out every single day, work their a-- off to put on a good showing on Sundays."

In front of a prime-time audience, Dart completed 17 of 25 passes for 195 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. He also rushed for 58 yards and a score on 13 carries to improve to 2-1 as a starter after the Giants began the season at 0-3 with Russell Wilson in the lineup.

Of course, Dart wasn't a one-man show at MetLife Stadium. Fellow rookie, running back and Giants "spark" Cam Skattebo rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns in what became one of the most shocking results, to date, of the ongoing campaign.

"I feel like we're just connected," Dart continued. "We just had some games, times and moments, where it hasn't gone our way. We do feel like we're a really good team. We have really good players. We're just trying to win games. We're just trying to stay internal and stay connected each and every day."

New York Giants were "starving" for new leaders such as Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo

Dart committed three costly turnovers in the loss to the Saints and admittedly had some rookie moments versus Philadelphia. Perhaps most concerning, he was evaluated for a concussion for the third time since the start of the preseason.

That said, concerns about his playing style can temporarily be set aside after he and his teammates gave the Giants' fan base reasons to feel excited about the franchise's future heading into the second weekend of October.

"I understand the most important thing for everybody is winning," Dart added, according to Dan Duggan of The Athletic. "As competitors, that’s how we feel, too. I feel like this city is starving for that. We are starving for that. We hate losing. It’s the worst feeling in the world. We just try to do our best, regardless of what outside noise is. We try to keep everything internal between us. I have all the confidence in the world in every single player on this team."

The Giants will have a bit of a break before they next play at the Denver Broncos on Oct. 19. 3-2 Denver faces the 0-5 New York Jets in London this coming Sunday.
