The Washington Commanders took care of the New York Giants on Sunday with a 21-6 win to open the season at 1-0, as star quarterback Jayden Daniels picked up right where he left off after winning Rookie of the Year last season.
Daniels completed 19 of 30 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown while also rushing 11 times for 68 yards.
On the broadcast, NFL legend and Fox Sports color commentator Tom Brady revealed postgame in an interview with Daniels that he had spoken with Jayden’s mom, Regina, before kickoff. She told him her son would win the weekly “LFG Player of the Game” award — and that’s exactly what happened.
“Jayden, I saw your mom in the pregame and she said, ‘Hey, my boy’s gonna win LFG Player of the Game today.’ And I said, ‘You know what? At home, I’m never betting against him.’”

Jayden Daniels’ rookie season was nothing short of special in Washington, and he has already placed himself among the league’s best entering this year after leading the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game.
As a rookie, Daniels completed 69.0% of his passes for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just nine interceptions. He also added 891 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns while guiding Washington to a 12-5 record.
Despite winning the “LFG” honor in Week 1 and helping the Commanders earn a victory, Daniels admitted the performance wasn’t up to their standard.
“You know how it is. Week 1, we didn’t play our best,” Daniels told Brady postgame. “We played sloppy. You have to get all the Week 1 jitters out. But we executed enough to get a win.”
