Jerry Jones teased multiple trades before Cowboys got George Pickens, and now there might just be an All-Pro on the way soon

Before the Dallas Cowboys traded for wide receiver George Pickens in one of the highest-profile moves in the offseason NFL-wide, owner Jerry Jones teased multiple "substantive" trades.

Though Pickens was certainly a blockbuster acquisition, many wondered if more moves would be in the horizon and if so, how big they would be. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler , the Cowboys are among the teams expected to be in the mix as potential suitors for All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey

Ramsey is currently under contract with the Miami Dolphins through 2028 after he signed a three-year extension last year. Now, the relationship between him and the team has become increasingly complicated, with trade rumors intensifying over the last few months.

"Either an offer too good to be true was going to come through, or the Dolphins would wait until after June 1st to split the salary cap fallout from moving on from Ramsey between both the 2025 and 2026 seasons," writes A to Z Sports' writer Kyle Crabbs. "The deadline for that mechanic is swiftly approaching on June 1st, meaning we’re in the endgame of Ramsey’s presumed departure."

The Cowboys' alleged interest in Ramsey isn't surprising given its among its biggest needs following the Pickens trade. Trevon Diggs won't be ready for the start of the season and losing Jourdan Lewis in free agency won't be easy to overcome. Though third-round rookie Shavon Revel Jr. was a steal in the third round, he hasn't played football in a long time and is only expected to be ready until training camp.

However, their chances of landing another big-time trade are questionable.

How likely are the Cowboys to pull off a trade for Jalen Ramsey?

I'll lead off by saying this: I didn't expect the Cowboys to give up a third-round pick for Pickens. To me, that was a shocker given the high cost for a one-year rental. Which, by the way, is another reason why I didn't see it taking place. The draft-pick-loving front office giving up a Day 2 pick for a player they admittedly don't plan to sign to an extension? What!?

So yeah, I'm not sure what the Cowboys' mindset is regarding Ramsey. But trading for the veteran cornerback would be unlike them considering the deal he is signed to and the fact that contract extensions for big-name players like Micah Parsons, DaRon Bland, and Tyler Smith are already in the backburner.

"The Cowboys feel like an unlikely candidate, especially against the backdrop of lingering negotiations for a long-term extension with star pass rusher Micah Parsons, argues Crabbs. "Dallas has a lot of irons in the fire and adding Ramsey to the mix could further complicate the money for their other negotiations."

But as the Pickens trade shows, if the Cowboys feel like they desperately need a cornerback, they might end up shocking us all with an All-Pro acquisition. But I wouldn't get my hopes up.
