The New York Jets picked up their fourth win of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although the Jets looked strong in the win, it was simply too little too late with their playoff hopes already dashed.
It's clear that the front office has already begun to look toward the team's future, as well. The Jets officially announced that they conducted their first interview for their open general manager position with Thomas Dimitroff on Monday.
Dimitroff was the general manager of the Atlanta Falcons from 2008 to 2020. During that tenure, the Falcons made the playoffs six times, including a Super Bowl appearance in 2016. Dimitroff was also named the NFL executive of the year twice during his tenure.
Overall, Dimitroff has 30 years of experience in the NFL as both a general manager and a scout.
Although Dimitroff never built a Super Bowl winner as a general manager, he still had experience drafting multiple NFL superstars, including Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. He also has plenty of experience that the Jets could use as they have to navigate a rebuild in the coming years.
It's currently unclear who else the Jets plan to interview in the coming weeks and months, but the fact that their first interview was with an experienced candidate could provide some insight into who else they'll bring in.
Jets owner and CEO Woody Johnson is leading the team's general manager and head coach search. Johnson also hired "The 33rd Team" in a support role to help identify and vet candidates while also coordinating interviews for both positions.
