Jets Announce Garrett Wilson Development on Wednesday

The New York Jets have assigned a designation where it pertains to star wide receiver Garrett Wilson ahead of their “Thursday Night Football” outing against the New England Patriots.

The Jets took several games to get off the mark in 2025 and have a bit of momentum going into Thursday’s game on the back of wins against the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. However, they’re now set to face a formidable division rival with Super Bowl ambitions.

New York would have done well to have Wilson available for the clash, but that won’t be the case, as they announced on Wednesday that he and cornerback Azareye’h Thomas will both be out in an update.

“The Jets downgraded WR Garrett Wilson and CB Azareye’h Thomas to out for TNF,” NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports.

Wilson sustained a hyperextended knee in Week 6 that caused him to miss two games before he returned after the Jets’ bye week.

He reinjured the knee on his return against the Browns and is now expected to be out for multiple games.

The 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year did not practice this week, as expected. And, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, he is likely to be out for 3-4 weeks with a right knee sprain.

Rookie Arian Smith is expected to be called upon. Allen Lazard and Adonai Mitchell were both healthy scratches last week, but are also options.
