Braelon Allen has been a solid backup running back for the New York Jets for the past two seasons. In his two-year NFL career, Allen has played in 21 games with two starts, totaling 110 carries for 410 yards and three touchdowns. He has also caught 21 passes for 165 yards and one score through the air.
Allen was drafted by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after spending three collegiate seasons with the Wisconsin Badgers.
Outside of just the backfield, Allen has returned kicks for the Jets this year, including one kick against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night, when he went down with a knee injury.
Immediately after that Week 4 matchup against the Dolphins, in which the Jets lost 27-21, New York head coach Aaron Glenn said Allen suffered "a pretty serious knee injury." Before going down, Allen had carried the ball four times for 26 yards off the bench. He also coughed up a fumble in Dolphins' territory that ended a long drive.
On Tuesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Allen suffered an MCL sprain, and on Thursday, the Jets put Allen on injured reserve.
One day later, it appears Allen's injury will keep him out much longer.
"Jets RB Braelon Allen is expected to miss 8-12 weeks, per HC Aaron Glenn," wrote ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Through four games this year, Allen had 18 rushes for 76 yards and one touchdown. The Jets will now be without his production off the bench for the foreseeable future. Because of this, New York signed Khalil Herbert off the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad to replace him.
Although this is a big blow for the Jets, they still have Breece Hall as a starter. Hall has run for 238 yards so far this season.
The Jets will try to improve their 0-4 record by hosting the Dallas Cowboys (1-2-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on Fox.
