Jets' Garrett Wilson offers cheeky response to Chiefs' Willie Gay Jr.

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson had a little fun on Friday while responding to controversial comments offered by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay Jr. earlier this week. 

"That’s exactly what we want to do," Wilson said shortly before he flashed what Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press called a "mischievous grin" toward reporters. "We want to run the ball. We want to tote the rock. So, yeah, man, expect to see a lot of that." 

Gay generated headlines Wednesday when he said ahead of Sunday's game between the 2-1 Chiefs and 1-2 Jets that New York entered a "panic mode" and became a team that merely "wants to run the ball" after quarterback Zach Wilson replaced the injured Aaron Rodgers in Week 1. 

Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett acknowledged Thursday that the team's "body of work these last few games" wasn't "pretty" and OddsChecker lists New York as a massive underdog (+340, +8.5) for Sunday's matchup against the defending Super Bowl champions as of early Friday evening. 

Regardless of what critics think about Zach Wilson, the Jets did him few favors when they recorded only 38 total rushing yards in last Sunday's 15-10 loss to the New England Patriots. Some Jets fans may be dreading what could become a franchise-altering contest played in front of a primetime television audience (and Taylor Swift), but the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year sounded ready Friday to shock the world. 

"These are the type of games you want to be involved with," Garrett Wilson insisted, per Ethan Greenberg and John Pullano of the Jets' official website. "We're going to have an opportunity to go out there and keep up with one of the best offenses the last three or four years in football and we're excited for the opportunity man. We know we have to keep up, we know what problems are going to arise this weekend and it's going to be our job to respond, and I feel like we'll be able to."

Garrett Wilson pleaded with fans earlier this week to "stick with us." If such supporters are silenced or become booing customers early on Sunday night, things could get ugly at MetLife Stadium even before Zach Wilson enters the locker room at halftime.
