Jets QB Situation 'Absolutely' Not Final With Justin Fields

The New York Jets have entrusted Justin Fields, as things stand right now, with the keys to the franchise as he takes over from Aaron Rodgers.

Fields' two-year, $40 million deal is seen by many as a one-year deal the franchise can get out of if things go south in 2025.

But while Fields looms as the starter right now, his signing alone doesn't guarantee the Jets don't continue to look at improving the position.

For SNY writer Connor Hughes, who answered fans' questions in his column, was asked if the Jets' other roster needs stop them from selecting a quarterback, and Hughes' response was rather emphatic.

"Absolutely not," Hughes wrote. "In all likelihood, the Jets franchise quarterback is not on their roster. "They need to find him. If they evaluate anyone in this class and believe they have that potential … take him. Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart, or Jalen Milroe, or Will Howard. They have Fields and Taylor. There is no rush to force a young quarterback to play before he’s ready. He can sit a full year and develop. The only downside would be keeping three quarterbacks on the 53. But, again, if you believe in the player: That doesn’t matter."

Despite Fields' signing, he is seen by many as a bridge option until the franchise can find its true quarterback of the future.

That is what makes what the Jets do at No. 7 in the draft a fascinating watch.

Do they go quarterback, receiver, or tight end? Any one of those avenues fans could easily envision the franchise going down, but just because Fields is on the roster, shouldn't and per Hughes, won't make New York give up on adding to the position.

The Jets could go in the draft in a host of ways, and it appears that going after a quarterback is as likely as any other position.
