Jets reportedly offered pick No. 10, fifth-rounder for 49ers' Deebo Samuel, No. 61 pick

While it was reported hours ahead of the start of the 2022 NFL Draft on Thursday night that the possibility of the New York Jets trading for San Francisco 49ers All-Pro offensive weapon Deebo Samuel was not "dead" at that time, no such transaction occurred. San Francisco began Friday evening with Samuel still on the roster, and the Jets landed cornerback Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson and pass-rusher Jermaine Johnson in the opening round of the player-selection process.

This isn't to say the Jets weren't interested in Samuel, who is in the final year of his rookie contract and looking to put pen to paper on a massive extension this spring or summer.

The Athletic's Matt Barrows reports the Jets "offered pick No. 10 and a fifth-rounder in exchange for Samuel and the 49ers' second-rounder, No. 61 overall." Additionally, Barrows notes that the Detroit Lions made a "light" offer for Samuel.

During an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said his employer was "in the mix" for a deal involving Samuel but added the 49ers don't seem all that interested in selling for anything other than a presumed "king's ransom."

Barring a surprising development, it appears both Samuel and veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will begin May attached to the 49ers.
