New York Jets rookie wide receiver and second-round draft pick Elijah Moore has suffered a setback ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against the New York Giants.
According to Nick Shook of the NFL's website, Moore is set to have an MRI to examine a quadriceps issue that forced him from Thursday's practice.
"I'm trying to get a feel," head coach Robert Saleh told reporters about Moore's situation. "I'm an optimist, so I'm never worried until I'm worried."
Moore, a product of Ole Miss, has received glowing reviews for his work this summer and is expected to be a key contributor playing alongside fellow rookie and quarterback Zach Wilson. As noted by Adam Wells of Bleacher Report, Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown recently named Moore as his pick to earn Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
"No Jets receiver has dominated daily like Moore," Connor Hughes noted for The Athletic earlier this week. "The team believes it has a star on its hands."
ESPN's Rich Cimini tweeted Moore likely won't play Saturday evening.
Wilson, meanwhile, admitted Wednesday he's been "learning what I can get away with and what I can't" during practices, which has led to the first-year pro making what he believes are correctable errors.
