The New York Jets will have the chance to eliminate the Miami Dolphins from playoff contention when they host them on Sunday.
Ahead of the game, the Jets have signed a new starting kicker, officially adding Greg Joseph to their active roster. Joseph will be the fifth-different kicker that New York has started this season, joining Greg Zuerlein, Spencer Shrader, Riley Patterson and Anders Carlson.
Prior to signing Joseph to the active roster, New York officially released Carlson, who missed both a field goal and an extra point in the Jets' 10-point loss against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16.
Joseph spent time with both the Washington Commanders and New York Giants this season, going 15-for-19 on field goals and eight-for-eight on extra points. Although he may not be a long-term option, he will likely be serviceable for one final regular-season game.
In 74 career games, Joseph has made 82.1-percent of his field goal attempts and 90.6-percent of his extra point attempts.
The team entered the season with Zuerlein as their long-term starter, but after spending over a month on injured reserve and making just 60-percent of his kicks this season, it seems the always-drama-filled Jets will officially be going in a different direction.
The kicker position will be one of many aspects of the team that the Jets' front office will need to address in the 2025 offseason. Zuerlein is still under contract heading into next season, but if the team doesn't even plan to start him with their season already over, there's a strong chance he'll be released in the coming months.
