Jets To Promote LB Troy Reeder

Reeder remained on the taxi squad through Week 1, but he was a gameday elevation this past weekend. The Jets could have elevated him two more times, but instead they are promoting him to the active roster. Reeder is being signed from the practice squad, SNY’s Connor Hughes reports.

During Sunday’s loss to the Packers, Reeder did not see any defensive work. He did log 25 special teams snaps, though. It would come as no surprise if a heavy third phase workload were to still be in store moving forward. Reeder has been a defensive regular earlier in his career, however.

The seventh-year veteran spent his first three seasons with the Rams, picking up several starts along the way. After a single campaign with Los Angeles’ AFC franchise, Reeder returned to the Rams in 2023. Another three-year spell in the NFC resulted in a snap share as high as 94% (in 2024) but last season the former undrafted free agent was primarily a special teams contributor.

In all, Reeder has made 117 combined regular and postseason appearances in the NFL. The 32-year-old will offer plenty in the way of experience to a linebacking corps already featuring Demario Davis and Jamien Sherwood. New York sports the No. 1 ranked total defense in the league through two weeks, and Reeder could emerge as a depth option to help the unit remain among the NFL’s best. If not, he will look to handle a core special teams role on his newest team.
