Jets' 'Up And Comers' Running Back Room Poised For Breakout Year?

The New York Jets' run game could be pivotal to the offense's success in 2025 under new coordinator Tanner Engstrand.

Breece Hall and Braelon Allen were a nice one-two combination that enjoyed some success last season. However, Justin Fields is now the leader of the offense, not Aaron Rodgers, which adds another running element to the offense.

Hall was thought to be on the trade block, but right now, he's still a Jet, and as for Allen, he did show glimpses last season of what he is capable of both as a runner and receiver.

Both are young and have fresh insight from a new coordinator, so could we see an uptick in production from a pair thought to be Fields' main weapons?

For CBS Sports, in putting all running back rooms into tiers, the Jets land in the up-and-comers, tier 4.

"Aaron Glenn comes from the Detroit Lions and saw firsthand how important the running game is, and now has some intriguing pieces at his disposal," CBS Sports writes. "Hall had somewhat of a letdown year after breaking out in his second season in the league in 2023. That said, the former second-round pick still finished with 1,359 yards from scrimmage last season and is only turning 24, so there is still plenty of upside. Meanwhile, Allen is a big-bodied back who flashed at times during his rookie season."

Hall, despite a down year in 2024, was still productive in the run and pass game, while Allen was used sparingly.

With Fields now steering the ship, there might be more emphasis on the run game, especially with Armand Membou drafted in the first round, and that could see Hall and Allen get ample opportunity to establish the run game.

Glenn knows what a good rushing attack can do for an offense, and we feel confident in saying that getting Hall and Allen up and running early will make everyone's job, including Fields', far easier.

Hall and Allen have a lot to prove to the outside NFL world, and in 2025, they may just get their chance to show what they are capable of.
