Keenan Allen is likely the best wide receiver remaining on the free agent market, and the Los Angeles Chargers franchise icon could return following a year with the Chicago Bears . The player and team met up last week, and while the two sides have yet to come to terms on a deal, a recent interview with head coach Jim Harbaugh suggests the workout went well and both sides will remain in touch.

During a media appearance, Harbaugh noted that Allen looked good in his workout and spoke about his desire to bring back one of the most reliable receivers in franchise history. Again, nothing is official as of this posting, but all signs point towards an eventual signing at some point in the coming days.

Jim Harbaugh Speaks on Potential Keenan Allen, Chargers Reunion

It’s easy to see why the Chargers could use Keenan Allen. After spending a decade with the club, Los Angeles traded him after the two sides could not agree on a pay cut. Harbaugh and quarterback Justin Herbert made the playoffs without Allen, but their lack of offensive weaponry played a large role in their quick playoff exit. Outside of second-round pick Ladd McConkey, the team did not have a reliable wide receiver who could consistently get open and move the chains.

Keenan Allen may have slowed down since his glory days, but he still looked like a solid player in 2024. Starting and appearing in 15 games, the six-time Pro Bowler finished the season with 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns on 121 targets. Given his solid play and pre-existing rapport with Herbert, he could step in and be the second or third option in this passing attack.
