Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon suffered an injury in the game against the Chicago Bears, and an update has been announced. The Texans announced that Mixon suffered an ankle injury and his return to the game is questionable but he eventually returned to he game late in the third quarter.

The injury happened when Mixon was brought down by T.J. Edwards. Many believed that Edwards used an illegal hip-drop tackle to bring him down, but the officiating crew did not call a penalty. Before the injury, Mixon rushed for 20 yards on seven carries and caught three passes for 25 yards.

Joe Mixon joined the Texans during the offseason via trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. After the trade, the former Oklahoma Sooners star signed a three-year $27 million contract extension through the 2026 season. In his debut with the Texans, Mixon rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown to help the team defeat the Indianapolis Colts.

“It was huge,” Texans QB CJ Stroud said last week, per the team’s official website. “I think you can definitely impose your will running the ball. You open up a whole multitude of plays for Bobby to call, and we just kept going to it. I think this is a testament that you can see everybody had numbers. Everybody touched the ball.

“Whenever you get those guys the ball, they make plays. I’ve just got to get them the ball as best as I can and not force anything, really understanding that those guys are going to make me look good.”

“It’s a game-changer,” Wide receiver Stefon Diggs said about Mixon. “That wide receiver game we’ve got is special. With that guy in the backfield, it’s special, as well. He breaks tackles, and he can crease at any time. In my opinion, he’s got a lot more in the tank. He missed a little bit of camp, so I think he’s getting his legs back.
