Green Bay Packers starting quarterback Jordan Love has not practiced at all this week after suffering an injury in the opener against the Eagles, but the Packers are still leaving the door open for him to play against the Colts on Sunday.
Love has been listed as questionable on the Packers injury report, which was released Friday afternoon. He missed practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week but apparently it’s still possible he could suit up against the Colts.
Jordan Love suffered a sprained MCL in the opener against the Eagles. The initial report was that he was likely to miss three-to-six weeks.
However, the fact that Love is listed as questionable means that he could be back before initially expected, even if he is unable to go against Indianapolis.
If Jordan Love cannot go against the Colts, the Packers are set to start Malik Willis at quarterback. The former Liberty star was drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans.
Willis was traded to the Packers for a seventh-round pick prior to the start of the 2024 season. Now it appears as though he could be getting his first start in Green Bay already.
Elsewhere on the Packers injury report, rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd was listed as questionable, as was second-year receiver Jayden Reed.
Lloyd is a rookie out of USC who missed the opener against the Eagles. Reed caught four passes for 138 yards and a touchdown against Philadelphia. He is dealing with a calf/shin issue.
Malik Willis is expected to start under center for Green Bay in Week 2 if Jordan Love isn’t cleared, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur revealed on Monday.
Love sprained his MCL during the Packers season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. No ACL damage was found and Love is expected to miss three to six weeks of action, leading way for the former Tennessee Titans quarterback to make the first start of his tenure with Green Bay.
“If Jordan is not cleared, then we’ll start Malik, and Sean [Clifford] will be the backup,” LaFleur said after practice on Monday.
Jordan Love was not placed on the team’s injured reserve, meaning there could be optimism for an early return.
The Packers will host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET live on FOX.
