Less than 24 hours before quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills took on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild card round of the 2025 NFL playoffs, the Bills lost a playmaker on offense.
Distribution has been the name of the game for Allen this season. Eleven different players have caught at least 10 passes from the Bills quarterback, led by wide receiver Khalil Shakir with 72 receptions for 719 yards.
After Shakir, there is a significant drop off and a lack of consistency in who has been Allen's No. 2 target in 2025. One of the streaky options was 26-year-old wideout Joshua Palmer, who was placed on injured reserve by the Bills on Saturday and ruled out for the postseason.
Palmer's 303 receiving yards were the third-most among Bills wide receivers. His absence leaves a gap in production heading into the game against the Jaguars and their eighth-ranked scoring defense (19.8 points allowed per game).
NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported that WR Keon Coleman is expected to step up in Palmer's absence following an inconsistent 2025 campaign.

I’m told WR Keon Coleman is expected to be active tomorrow and could play a role for offense that needs playmakers to step up.
Coleman was the second-most productive wideout on the roster with 38 receptions for 404 yards and four touchdowns, but only played in 13 games and was benched by head coach Sean McDermott multiple times.
Other players will also have to take on increased roles. Tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, who have a combined 75 receptions, 988 yards and nine touchdowns this season, are both likely to see more targets in the passing game.
NFL rushing leader James Cook III will have to be at his best to take the pressure off Allen and the passing game as Buffalo attempts to make a run to the Super Bowl in what appears to be a more open AFC field than usual.
While he rested (mostly) in Week 18, Allen had time to do some self-scouting and one of his takeaways was to keep trusting his teammates, no matter who is out there.
"Just trusting reads, trusting feet, trusting eyes, trusting my teammates, I think that's what it kind of comes down to," Allen said. "As we get into the playoffs, it was a very helpful exercise to do."
But when it comes time to make a big throw this postseason, Allen will be short one of his usual options.
The Bills-Jaguars game kicks off from Jacksonville at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday and will be broadcast nationally on CBS.
