Justin Herbert's Madden rating is so bad a Raiders fan might have created it

Justin Herbert is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL; there is no disputing that. While Herbert may not be in that exclusive upper tier that only includes three or four quarterbacks, the LA Chargers' signal-caller is every bit of elite.

However, because of a lack of team success (which isn't fully Herbert's fault) and his reserved nature, Herbert has become one of the most disrespected quarterbacks in the league. His elite ceiling has been called into question more than any other great quarterback. And unfortunately, these unfair critiques bleed into other areas, including the virtual NFL.

The player ratings for Madden 26 have been released and Herbert has, by far, the most staggering rating on the Chargers. Herbert is the fourth-highest rated player on the Chargers with the folks over at EA Sports giving him an 86 overall.

That isn't a horrible rating. When compared to his peers, though, it seems a bit disrespectful.

Madden 26 got Justin Herbert's rating wrong (and the Chargers QB will prove it)

There are five quarterbacks who were given a higher overall than Justin Herbert in Madden 27. Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen were both given 99 overalls, which is fair after the seasons the two signal-callers have.

One would assume that Patrick Mahomes, who is undoubtedly the best quarterback in the league, would follow closely behind those two with a 98 overall. Nope. Mahomes is the fourth-highest-rated quarterback in the game with a 95 overall; Joe Burrow clocks in ahead of him with a 97 overall.

Are we sure Raiders fans didn't put together these ratings?

The other two quarterbacks who are rated higher than Herbert as just as shocking. Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff, who were traded for each other years ago, both have a higher overall than Herbert.

Stafford might be a year away from retirement and Goff might be a year away from irrelevancy without Ben Johnson. Both the Rams and Lions would trade their quarterbacks for Justin Herbert tomorrow if it were offered. They are not better quarterbacks than Herbert.

And if that was not enough, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts checks in with the same rating as Herbert. Hurts did just win a Super Bowl, sure, but it still seems a bit wrong to give him the same rating as Herbert.

All in all, this is just another reminder to the Chargers that the team needs to win some playoff games so Herbert can finally get the respect he deserves. Because right now, it's absurd how Herbert is viewed compared to his contemporaries at the quarterback position.
