Justin Jefferson Plans to Tell Coach O'Connell What Plays He Didn't Like From Vikings-Bears

Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings came away with the win on 'Monday Night Football' against the Chicago Bears. It took a comeback from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit, however, Jefferson and his new quarterback, J.J. McCarthy got the job done. The Vikings now sit at 1-0 after a 27-24 road-victory to wrap up Week 1 in the NFL.

Jefferson, who is used to putting up monster offensive numbers, had a mediocre showing (by his standards) in his first game with his new QB under center. Jefferson finished with 44 yards on four receptions and one touchdown.

Jefferson, and the entire Vikings roster, had to wait a year to start the McCarthy-era in Minnesota, as the No. 10 overall pick from the 2024 NFL draft recovered from a torn meniscus he suffered during his first ever preseason game.

Now that head coach, QB, and No. 1 wide receiver are all healthy and ready to get on the same page, the trio's relationship is naturally going to find its way under a media-funded-microscope.

Justin Jefferson Won't Hold Back Talking to His Head Coach

Following the Vikings victory, Jefferson made his way to the on-field SportsCenter desk, making an appearance on ESPN with host, Scott Van Pelt. Naturally, part of Van Pelt's line of questioning involved asking Jefferson how he fells about his head coach.

Jefferson praised coach O'Connell, however, he also kept it real by admitting they aren't always on the same page, and on occasion there are plays the All-Pro WR isn't very fond of. Van Pelt offered to mediate, asking if Jefferson needed Van Pelt's assistance in getting that tough message delivered to his head coach. Jefferson quickly revealed how he plans to discuss the plays he didn't like from Monday's victory with his coach.

"He's not perfect as well. Some play calls might not be the best," Jefferson said.

"Any plays or calls you want me to mention to him (Kevin O'Connell) that weren't the best?" Van Pelt asked.

"Oh I'm gonna tell him myself," Jefferson revealed.

It appears Jefferson truly enjoys playing for coach O'Connell. The remainder of the interview was spent complimenting his head coach, but Jefferson, the second-highest paid WR in the league, doesn't seem to be afraid to tell his coach when his play calls "aren't the best".

Now in his fourth season as the head coach of the Vikings, O'Connell now holds a record of 35-17. He, Jefferson, and McCarthy will look to start the season 2-0 when they take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2 on 'Sunday Night Football'.
