Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson made history during the 2020 season when he set an NFL rookie record for receiving yards with 1,400 on the campaign.
Cincinnati Bengals first-year pro Ja'Marr Chase is on pace to shatter that mark during what is now a 17-game season as long as he remains healthy. Thus far, Chase has 754 receiving yards, meaning he could easily finish with over 1,800 total yards, as Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk explained.
The pair of young wideouts were teammates at LSU along with Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, and Jefferson admitted while speaking with reporters Thursday he hopes the Cincinnati duo make history come January.
"He’s been doing a great job. He’s killing it, especially having Joe, his college quarterback. I’m proud of him and of Joe and I hope he does break it," Jefferson explained.
As a member of the 1960 Houston Oilers, Bill Groman set the pro football mark for rookie receiving yards with 1,473 when that franchise was part of the American Football League. The way the Bengals are playing, Chase could hit 1,500 yards with several games to spare.
