For the first time since the 2022 offseason, the Minnesota Vikings have wide receiver Justin Jefferson in the building for Organized Team Activities.
Over the last two years, Jefferson didn't attend the Vikings' workouts. It was mainly due to not having a new contract. Jefferson ended up getting his contract last year at the beginning of June, and locked him up through the 2028 season.
When Jefferson spoke to the media, one of the first questions was about why he was at OTAs and J.J. McCarthy.
"Yeah, I mean, I most likely was going to be here anyway, but for them to ask for me to be here. And, you know, especially with JJ being our new quarterback, new guys on the team, new guys on our offense. So just being here with them, and just making sure that the young guys are organized, and they're knowing what was going on. So it definitely feels great to be here a little earlier than normal."
What's really interesting here is that Jefferson said that the Vikings asked him to be her. It's interesting that they asked Jefferson, as he is a captain on the Vikings and is arguably the most important leader on the team. While he didn't attend OTAs the previous two years, nobody was questioning Jefferson's ability as a leader.
He elaborated on how important it was for him to be at OTAs and it's obvious how invested Jefferson is in this team.
"It's definitely important to gain a little bit of sight of what the new year is coming to look like, to build that connection with my teammates and especially with my quarterback. So it's definitely great to be out here early, to kind of get in the feel of what this year is going to be like, of course. You know, getting the plays back, going through the plays again, and just being out here, just the whole field, is always a great vibe. So, when they asked for me to be here and asked for me to, you know, be a part of it, it was a no-brainer."
With Jefferson fully invested and understanding the importance of what this means, especially with a first-year starting quarterback.
