In just a matter of hours, the battle for first place in the AFC West will commence in the Mile High City.

The Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) will hit the road for a matchup with the Denver Broncos (5-2). Fresh off a bad loss in Seattle, where they were thoroughly outclassed, the Chiefs are looking to show the world that game was a mirage. This game presents a huge opportunity for them to do just that.

The Broncos have won three straight games following a 2-2 start to the season. Their offense has struggled for most of the year, but Sean Payton’s team is finding ways to win. They have a chance to prove they’re for real.

With so much on the line, it’s time to predict who comes out on top in this clash of AFC West rivals. Here’s my official prediction for Chiefs vs. Broncos.

Chiefs vs. Broncos Official Score Prediction

This is a hard game to predict. Up until last week, the Chiefs looked like a Super Bowl contender. The offense was humming, and the defense was playing like an elite unit, despite some flaws. And then the Seahawks game happened. Kansas City played poorly, and all their flaws were exposed in 60 minutes of football.

Now they have to hit the road again to play in another difficult road environment. The Broncos have revenge on their minds following a lopsided defeat to Kansas City in Week 1. Couple that with an offense maybe showing signs of breaking out and an elite defense, and this gets tricky for the visitors.

There are a few things going in the Chiefs’ favor. One, they can’t possibly play worse than they did last weekend. Two, Kenneth Walker III usually doesn’t stay down for long. He’s due for a huge bounce-back performance. And finally, Patrick Mahomes is 14-2 in his career against Denver. He’s been a boogeyman for the orange and blue.

It’s not all positive for Kansas City. Their pass rush has struggled to generate pressure all season. And that defense will be without Mansoor Delane and L’Jarius Sneed on the back end. Denver’s passing offense hasn’t found consistency yet, but Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle (if he plays) should have more favorable matchups today.

Ultimately, this is a tough spot in the schedule for Kansas City. They’re banged up, coming off a terrible performance, and now have to play in Denver. Mahomes and Walker will bounce back and make a few plays against a great defense. But the injuries and lack of pass rush finally catch up to the defense. The Chiefs battle, but fall short and lose their grip on the AFC West.

Broncos 24, Chiefs 20
