The Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated through five games, but the schedule is about to get much tougher.
Kansas City is gearing up for one of its most difficult games on the calendar: a road trip to Seattle to take on the Seahawks. The defending Super Bowl champions are currently 3-3, with some big questions to answer. But they have one of the NFL’s best defenses and a home-field advantage.
The Chiefs and Seahawks have had some memorable battles in the past. Before these two powerhouses square off on Sunday Night Football, here’s a look at their series history.
The Chiefs and Seahawks have met 53 times in the regular season, with Kansas City winning 34 of those games. The last meeting between these two teams was on Dec. 24, 2022. The Chiefs won 24-10 that day at Arrowhead. The last meeting in Seattle was on Dec. 23, 2018. The Seahawks claimed a 38-31 victory that day.
The first meeting between these two teams was on Dec. 11, 1977. Seattle won that game 34-31. Since the dawn of the 21st Century, Kansas City has controlled the series, winning seven of the ten contests. The two teams exchanged wins early on, but since the 1990’s, it’s been dominated by the Chiefs.
Despite a 1-1 career record against Seattle, Patrick Mahomes has played really well against them. In that 2018 defeat, he completed 23-of-40 passes for 273 yards and three touchdowns. In the 2022 win, he completed 16-of-28 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns. He had a combined passer rating of 104.8 in those two games.
The Seahawks have won 14 of the 26 games played in Seattle. Despite being an incredibly tough place to play, the Chiefs have had some relative success going on the road in this series. They’ll look to claim another victory in Seattle on Sunday Night Football. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. CST on NBC.
